Bones Flash Race – Event Recap

Despite the thane melting heat there was a good turnout of 18 skaters entering the race. The final corner was the real tester and saw a few guys go tumbling into the foam. When it came to racing though, some of the guys went skidding off the road in the first corner as they were gunning for the win and misjudged their exit speed. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries and only one or two guys lost some skin on the tarmac.

We had 3 rounds of round robin to seed everyone for the final heats. With only 3 people in each heat, the round robin was really just a warm-up of what was to follow.

The final racing was done with 4 man heats, the top 2 finishers of each heat going through to the next round. It was exciting racing right from the first heat! The first upset was 5th qualifier Alic Mabie crashing out in the first corner of the very first heat. Things got very tight in the second round as this was semi-finals already. Nick Simic and Callan Daniel had a photo finish in the second semi-final heat. Finish line footage filmed by Graham Gerber showed that Callan only just passed Nick about half a meter before the line to take the last spot in the Final. 

In the final, it was Lloyd, Dan, Elster, and Callan. Lloyd pushed out in front with Dan hot on his heels through the first corner. By the second corner, Dan came up right next to Lloyd forcing him to take a tight line entering the final corner. Lloyd couldn’t hold his line on the exit and only just touched the foam but it was enough to bring him down and let the other 3 through.

Well done to Dan for taking another win! Well done to Victor for hosting a successful event that was a lot of fun for all!
